Homeless Feeding, Assistance and Recovery in Playas del Coco/Playa Ocotal
| Love Does: | “Suppose a brother or sister does not have any clothes or daily food and one of you tells them, “Go in peace! Stay warm and eat heartily.” If you do not provide for their bodily needs, what good does it do? In the same way, faith by itself, if it does not prove itself with actions, is dead.” |
Every Tuesday, rain or shine, you will find the volunteers at The Monkey Farm, preparing a hearty protein and vegetable rich meal for the poor and homeless in Playas del Coco. We also will be brewing some vitamin filled ice tea made with guanabana and moringa leaves to serve with dinner. This ensures that the homeless will get a hot meal at least once a week filled with vitamins and protein.
Every Christmas The Monkey Farm volunteers have a big Christmas party for the poor and homeless on the last Tuesday before Christmas. We serve traditional Christmas tamales, apples and grapes, cake, cookies and hot coffee. Gifts are also given to each of the poor people who attend, with special gifts being purchased for the children.
We also collect and distribute shoes, clothing and other supplies such as sample size shampoo bottles, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, etc., to donate weekly or as needed to the poor and homeless of Playa del Coco.
In March of 2019, two of the men asked for help in getting out of the lifestyle of alcoholism and living on the street. We started a volunteer program at our farm, in cooperation with our church, so they can have a sense of community, family and being part of something bigger than themselves. Since then, we have helped seven people to get off the streets and win their lives back. Three of the seven just got baptized and have committed their lives to serving others and God in moving forward with their new purpose in life, which is to help others get out of the cycle of addiction and homelessness.
The cost to purchase the supplies for each weekly meal is $40 per week and more for the Christmas party. Please consider giving monthly to help support this project. We are a U.S. registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, ID #81-1664389, and also a registered NGO in Costa Rica.
The food is served every Tuesday, without fail, at 7:00 p.m. We meet at the concrete benches that are outside the soccer field, and across the street from the basketball court and skate park that is on the beach in Coco.
If you would like to volunteer to serve the food, or have shoes, clothing or other items to donate, contact Vicki Conley at The Monkey Farm in Costa Rica or just meet us down at the beach any Tuesday at 7:00.
