The daily work flow is very fluid and self-organized: no one keeps track of the time that you use working. Only results matter. It’s a big challenge but the sense of purpose in the work are such rewards in and of themselves that anyone who wishes to live in nature and practice permaculture and sustainable methods will be greatly satisfied. You can take a free online permaculture course here.

- Cute, no? It’s food. 😉
As of now the farm is not yet producing enough food for everyone to go around, so volunteers are having to supplement by purchasing some of their own food. What food there is, is shared. We have fruit, vegetables and bakery products donated every day.
It’s largely up to the volunteers to decide how to live together at The Monkey Farm. Many choose to pool their money to make joint purchases of food and share in the cooking and cleaning duties.
There are many animals on the farm and some of them are eaten. Therefore the place is most likely not suitable for vegans. We raise a lot of chickens for meat, and trade the excess with local fisherman for fish. We also have both chickens and ducks for eggs, pigs, a goat for milking and hope to add a milk cow soon.
Provided is either a bed in shared housing or a place to pitch your tent, a communal kitchen, and an enclosed outdoor shower. We do have internet and a wifi connection. There is also equipment to go snorkeling, spearfishing, (the beach is just half a mile away) and some bicycles for volunteers to ride.
Because of our popularity among volunteers, we turn down many more volunteer applications than we can accept. Therefore, if you are accepted, that means we turned down many people that wanted to be here, in order to give a space to you. It is important that you understand the importance of completing the entire length of the stay that you committed to and that you have a work ethic that demonstrates that you appreciate the opportunity to be on the farm.
Please communicate with us prior to your arrival if you have any special needs or requests.

All in all, it’s a great place to be. No one here is an all-knowing guru. We are here to learn from each other and will try to select volunteers who have something they can teach the others. If you are interested in being a part of this start-up, fill out the application. If you like what we do and would rather support us financially, please donate here:
